The short answer
American Stone LS is a fourth-generation stonemason family based in Doylestown. We repoint stone houses, chimneys and foundations with lime-rich mortar, restore historic fieldstone farmhouses and remove stucco, restore flagstone patios, walkways and steps, repair stone walls, and seal patios and walls, throughout Doylestown Borough and the surrounding townships. Estimates are free and Luciano and Alex come out themselves.
Luciano started working on Doylestown stone more than forty years ago, and his work got around the way it still does here: one neighbor showing another. A lot of what we do now is in houses we, or the generation before us, have known for years.
What we see in Doylestown
The borough has a mix of stone, brick and frame buildings, with stone foundations, porches, steps and garden walls almost everywhere. Out in Doylestown, Plumstead and Warwick townships it is fieldstone farmhouses, bank barns and long field walls. The problems we see most often:
- Chimneys with washed-out joints and cracked crowns, the first part of an old house to need repointing.
- Old cement patching on fieldstone that is now cracking and spalling the stone around it.
- Flagstone walks and front steps lifted by roots and frost, with open joints and rocking stones.
- Stucco-covered farmhouses whose owners wonder what is underneath.
- Damp basements and inside walls traced back to failed pointing, gutters and grading.
What we do here
Repointing with lime-rich mortar matched to the original, historic stone restoration and stucco removal, patio, walkway and step restoration, stone wall repair and sealing and weatherproofing. For many Doylestown homes the right plan is a little each year: chimney this year, the weather side next, the front walk after that.
Local and personal
When you call, you talk to Luciano or Alex. They come out, walk the property with you and do the work themselves. Clients like Jerome and Tammy Connor and Sherryl Gordan, both in Doylestown, are why we have never needed to advertise much.
