The short answer
In Lambertville and across Hunterdon County, New Jersey, American Stone LS repoints sandstone and fieldstone houses with lime-rich mortar, restores historic stonework, repairs stone walls, and restores and seals flagstone and bluestone patios and walkways. We also work in Princeton, where we completed three phases of stonework at the Cannon Club.
Lambertville and New Hope face each other across the Delaware, and the stonework on both sides has a lot in common. On the Jersey side, much of the older building stone is the red and brown sandstone and shale of this part of the state, alongside fieldstone farmhouses, river-town walls and canal-side foundations.
What we see in Hunterdon County
- Sandstone houses where hard cement pointing has made the softer stone around it flake and erode.
- River-town foundations and walls that stay damp and need careful, breathable repointing.
- Farmhouses and barns across western Hunterdon needing repointing and wall repair.
- Patios, walks and steps that need repointing, resetting and sealing.
What we do here
Lime repointing matched to each stone, historic restoration, stone wall repair, patio and walkway restoration and sealing. Softer sandstone in particular has to be matched with a softer mortar. It is the most common mistake we see, and the most avoidable.
Princeton too
At Princeton University's Cannon Club we completed three phases of stonework, including a second-floor porch patio waterproofed over the kitchen below and an entrance matched to the building's gothic stone. We are glad to take on restoration work in Princeton and Mercer County.
